I went to Middlesex Community College job interview this morning. As I am gearing to set up my business, I'm looking for a part-time job, preferably local. It was by chance that I ran across this position. The position is for nights and weekends. Mon-Thu and Sat. Perfect time slot.
The interview was mixed because of confusion over appointment time. I really didn't have any question to ask, since the position is for Data Processing Lab Assistant. I pretty much know everything that is required of that position already, although I should have asked whether or not I should trim my hair. The interview was really quick. It went something like this: 1. Are you currently working at Wesleyan? No. I'm currently trying to get my business up and running. The nice thing about it is that since it's a web development business, time and place doesn't matter. 2. The position is part time, nights and weekends. Perfect. I AM trying to get my business off the ground. Nights and weekends are the worst time slot to sell things because that is when businesses are the busiest. 3. Hardware and software skills? My skills are concentrated on software. All kinds of software. About hardware, I can detect defective hardware, and replace them or install new hardware, but I cannot fix faulty hardware. 4. What about skills you don't have? Either I learn it as I go along, or if it is something that comes up often, then I'll get a book and learn from that. 5. The position requires reliability. Well, a web developer isn't a time fixed position, but you can set the clock to my shift when I was working as MCO.
Overall, I hope I gave them the impression that I am overqualified for this position, which I am. Visiting the college, though, gave me a chance to judge the atmosphere of the place, and I can tell you that the energy that Wesleyan has is absent from this place. My visit there is too brief to find out why. Assuming I work there, I'll find out why as I go along.
