What work does a web developer is involved in? Well, lots and lots of cgi scripting with HTML on the side. What makes me so good, is that I learn new technology very, very quickly. This is very important in rapidly advancing technology such as the World Wide Web. Having the ability to learn many things very quickly means that I am knowledgable in just about anything. This means that not only I know cgi-scripting, but I also know HTML writing, JavaScript scripting, and I even learn project management principles, just because I can.
I am at the stage where I can function effectively as a project manager. In fact, my manager has to be good, because I can spot management mistakes quite easily, and effortlessly. I have been a web developer since the beginning (pre-Microsoft), and am quite good at it. This doesn't mean that I'm a specialist. I mean, my training so far has been as a System Analyst, business or computer, which you have got to admit covers quite a bit of range. Still, I have no experience as System Analyst, and am too busy to formally seek a degree in that field, so I'm stuck as Web Developer for now. As far as regarding qualification of a person, I really don't care about years of experience more than intelligence, and character. That's because WWW advances so rapidly that knowledge that is good about 2 years ago is now obsolete. Thus, the ability to learn new things is much more important than experience, although I have lots of experience myself.
